How to Make Toffee Candy

This is one of the easiest candies I’ve ever made, and it’s so versatile. It only has 4 ingredients and takes only a few minutes to make. This homemade version is much better tasting than what you can buy in the store!

Try using the broken pieces in a triffle, cookies, cakes, over ice cream or on a chocolate dipped apple for amazingly yummy results!

Recipe:

1 cup (2 sticks) butter
1 cup granulated sugar
2 cups (12 oz pkg) semi-sweet chocolate morsels, divided
1 cup finely chopped walnuts, divided

Instructions:

Heat butter and sugar in medium-size, heavy saucepan to boiling over medium heat, stirring constantly.

Boil until golden colored (approximately 10 minutes), stirring constantly.

Pour into buttered 8 inch square baking pan. Let stand for 3 minutes until top begins to firm.

Sprinkle 1 cup chocolate morsels over candy.

Let stand for 5 minutes or until morsels are shiny, spread chocolate over surface.

Sprinkle ½ cup walnuts over chocolate, press down slightly.

Chill for 15 minutes or until chocolate is firm.

Invert candy onto waxed paper-lined tray.

Microwave remaining chocolate morsels in small bowl on high power for 1 minute. Take out and stir until chocolate is melted. You may need to microwave an additional 25 seconds.

Remove any excess moisture from candy surface and spread chocolate over candy.

Sprinkle with remaining walnuts, press down slightly.

Chill until firm.

Break into bite size pieces.

Tips: I find that putting chocolate on both sides is a bit much, it’s up to your own preferences. Using a heavy Teflon pan works great to not scorch the candy. You can use pecans or peanuts if you desire. I use a cookie sheet instead of an 8 inch pan. It’s a bit thinner and goes farther.
